Launceston Couple Wins $2.5 Million Emerald Queensland Gold Lotto Winner

A Launceston couple became an emerald queensland gold lotto winner after a Sunday morning call from The Lott while they were driving. They won $2.5 million from a 12-game QuickPick bought at Prospect Marketplace News.

The ticket was one of eight winners sharing a $20 million pool. The couple said they had waited 17 years for a Gold Lotto win, and the prize has already shifted their attention to a first home rather than another rental.

Prospect Marketplace News

The winning ticket was sold at Prospect Marketplace News, where owner Ravi Teja Varma said the store had been waiting nearly two decades to sell another division 1 winner. He said, "We're so excited, so happy... we've been waiting for a long time," and added, "I'm so happy for the customer who won the prize,".

Varma also said, "Carole who looks after Tatts [in the store], she's also so excited - she's been working here 15-plus years." The store's previous division 1 history includes 26 winning tickets sold over 26 years by the Dolbey family before they retired at the end of 2024.

Sunday Morning Call

The wife reacted to the call with, "No, this is a joke. This is really a joke. It can't be true. You have no idea what this means,". Her husband replied, "What a lovely Mother's Day present,".

They said the win would change their housing plans. "We might just go look for our first home. We've always talked about it. We won't be renting anymore," the man said.

She added, "I might go buy a bottle of champagne this afternoon to celebrate!" The winning superdraw numbers were 12, 11, 2, 33, 37, and 17, with supplementary numbers 36 and 41.
