Charlie Coyle Signs Six-Year, $36 Million Blue Jackets Deal

charlie coyle is staying in Columbus on a six-year, $36 million contract that runs through the 2031-32 season. The Blue Jackets locked in the 34-year-old center after he delivered 58 points in 82 games in his first season with the club.

Don Waddell on Coyle

Columbus announced the extension at a $6 million average annual value, keeping Coyle under team control for six more seasons. Don Waddell called him a priority, saying, "Charlie made a tremendous impact on and off the ice for us last season and keeping him in Columbus was a priority".

Waddell added that Coyle "is the definition of a true pro, and a durable, reliable, productive right-shot center whose leadership, character and consistency are extremely valuable in this league." He also said, "We are thrilled that he will continue to be a very important part of the Columbus Blue Jackets for years to come."

Coyle's Columbus production

Coyle arrived in Columbus in a trade with Colorado on June 27, 2025, and then gave the Blue Jackets a full season of work right away. He finished 2025-26 with 20 goals and 38 assists, matched his career high in assists, and stayed in the lineup for all 82 contests.

That first year in Columbus also showed the range of his game. He posted seven power play goals, took 144 shots on goal, won 50.7 percent of his faceoffs and logged 18:06 of ice time per game.

Charlie Coyle's track record

The new deal follows a long run of durability. Coyle has skated in 411 consecutive games since Oct. 16, 2021, has played 1,032 career NHL games, and has appeared in 13 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

His career began when San Jose took him in the first round, 28th overall, at the 2010 NHL Draft. He has since built a 209-334-543 career line and won a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2015 IIHF World Championships.

For Columbus, the move keeps a veteran center who already delivered 58 points and matched his top assist total in his first season. The Blue Jackets now have that production, plus the consistency that has carried him through 411 straight games, locked in through 2031-32.
