Real Betis Presses Champions League Push in Betis – Elche
Real Betis entered betis – elche needing a win on Tuesday to tighten its Champions League push. A victory would keep the gap to Celta at four points at minimum and leave Manuel Pellegrini’s side dependent on itself in the last league round.
Pellegrini’s lineup plan
Pellegrini took Natan, Llorente and Ricardo into the squad after their return from San Sebastián with different discomforts. Betis also had Ruibal suspended, while Bartra and Ángel Ortiz were out injured, and Ricardo’s fever on Monday afternoon forced a late call-up for Carlos de Roa from the reserve team.
Amrabat, Lo Celso and Natan were rested against Real Sociedad and were expected to start against Elche. That gives Betis more of the spine it wanted for a game that could move it closer to fifth place before the final Sunday.
Elche’s survival pressure
Elche arrived in Seville with 39 points and its own urgency. Eder Sarabia said there would be changes after the 1-1 home draw with Alavés on Saturday, and he had doubts over Rafa Mir and Adam Boayar because both had been carrying discomfort for days.
Yago Santiago was already out for Elche, which meant Sarabia had to manage both form and fitness while trying to secure survival in LaLiga. Betis, meanwhile, had already mathematically secured European competition for a sixth consecutive season on Sunday and Europa League qualification on Monday, so Tuesday’s match was about turning that safety net into something bigger.
Barcelona and San Mamés await
The cleanest route for Betis was simple: beat Elche and have Celta lose at Levante one hour earlier. If that did not happen, Betis could still carry a four-point lead into the final league round, where it visits already crowned champion FC Barcelona while Celta goes to Athletic at San Mamés.
That setup leaves Betis in control of its own finish, but not yet in the safest seat. Elche’s 39 points also kept its margin tight, with Alavés still able to push the safety line higher if it won both remaining matches.
