Meghan Agosta Enters 2026 PWHL Draft After 8-Year Absence
meghan agosta is back on a pro-hockey path. The three-time Olympic gold medalist was named to the 2026 PWHL Draft declaration list after not playing since helping Canada win gold in PyeongChang in 2018.
Her declaration adds a 39-year-old veteran to a record 235-athlete pool for the 2026 PWHL Draft. Agosta is the fourth all-time leading scorer in NCAA hockey history and eighth all-time in women's Olympic hockey scoring.
Detroit Draft Pool
The draft will take place at the historic Fox Theatre in Detroit on June 17, and the Vancouver Goldeneyes hold the No. 1 pick. That gives Agosta's declaration a clear spot in a class that already includes multiple Olympic gold medalists and international names.
Caroline Harvey, Abbey Murphy, Tessa Janecke, Laila Edwards, Kirsten Simms, Andrea Brändli and Elisa Holopainen are also on the declaration list. Harvey, Murphy and the others make this one of the deepest pools the league has drawn, with five players from the group carrying Olympic gold and Brändli entering after helping Switzerland win bronze in February 2026 and being named the best netminder in the tournament.
Agosta's 2018 Pause
Agosta's name stands out because her absence from pro hockey dates to 2018, when she last played after Canada's gold medal run in PyeongChang. At 39, she arrives in a draft class that is being built around younger college stars and established international players, but her scoring record still places her among the most productive forwards ever to enter a draft pool like this.
For the Vancouver Goldeneyes and every team picking behind them, the list now carries a different kind of pressure: the chance to add a decorated scorer who has already done the work at the biggest stage, and the question of whether that return happens at all in Detroit on June 17.
