Kamloops Water Main Break Repairs Fail, Restrictions Remain in East End

The City of Kamloops said the kamloops water main break repair in the east end was unsuccessful, leaving the system compromised and water restrictions still in effect for residents and businesses east of Rose Hill to city limits. Crews are now preparing a secondary repair plan while water service remains limited.

Impacted properties were told to stop using water, and the city said water supply will be prioritized for essential use only once crews begin replenishing reservoirs. The city also said properties east of Rose Hill to city limits can expect to be without water until further notice.

Kamloops East End Response

City crews are preparing to begin filling reservoirs so service can be re-established in the affected area. Once reservoir levels are stabilized, the repair work is anticipated to take place on May 13. Until then, affected properties must not consume water.

The city said it may enter property to shut off water from the city source if notified properties are using water, and fines may be issued if the restriction is ignored. That leaves affected residents and businesses with little flexibility: available water is reserved for essential use while the repair plan shifts.

Water Trucks and Supplies

Potable water trucks are scheduled to be available 24/7 from midnight Wednesday, May 13 to midnight Friday, May 15. Beginning Saturday, May 16, potable water will be available from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm for a minimum of approximately 5 days.

Non-potable water is available as of 9:00 am on May 12 at six locations, with Emergency Support Services onsite at those locations providing bottled drinking water. For households and businesses in the impacted area, the practical next step is to stay within the restriction and use the truck and supply points set out by the city.
