Google Laptops Get Gemini-First Googlebook With Magic Pointer

Google laptops now have a new label: Googlebook, a category built from the ground up for Gemini intelligence. The first devices are set to launch this fall, and Google is pitching them as more than a Chromebook refresh. It is also tying the line to Android phones, which could make the laptop feel less isolated from the rest of a user’s devices.

Googlebook and Gemini intelligence

Google said Googlebook is the first laptop category designed from the ground up for Gemini Intelligence. That shifts the product from a cloud-first laptop model toward one built around on-device AI features and tighter software integration.

The company framed that shift as moving from an operating system to an intelligence system. It also said it is bringing together Android and ChromeOS in the Googlebook experience.

Magic Pointer on Googlebook

Googlebook includes Magic Pointer, a feature built with the Google DeepMind team. It gives quick, contextual suggestions every time a user points at something on the screen, which turns the cursor into a trigger for action instead of a passive pointer.

The laptops also add Create your Widget, which lets users create custom widgets by prompting Gemini. Gemini can search the internet or connect to Google apps like Gmail and Calendar to build one personalized dashboard.

Android phones and fall launch

Google said Googlebook works with Android phones so users can access phone apps and files instantly. That makes the laptop less dependent on copying files or bouncing between separate device ecosystems.

Premium hardware from top partners will feature a unique glowbar design. Google also said the devices will launch this fall, but it did not lay out pricing or the exact lineup of models.

The older reference point is the Chromebook, which Google introduced over 15 years ago for a cloud-first world. Googlebook reads like an attempt to replace that framing with a laptop category organized around Gemini and a tighter link to Android.
