Ubisoft Launches $500,000 Caribbean Treasure Hunt for 15 Riddles
ubisoft has launched a real-life treasure hunt tied to Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, putting a $500,000 prize in the Caribbean ahead of the game’s July 9 release. Players who want to enter must buy clues first, with the least expensive option starting at $39.99.
The hunt centers on 15 riddles and could stretch for as long as five years, according to Ubisoft and Unsolved Hunts. Only one player will ultimately reach the handcrafted replica chest and win the game.
Ubisoft and Unsolved Hunts
The promotion pairs Ubisoft with Unsolved Hunts, the real-world scavenger hunt maker. The game tied to it, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, launches July 9 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
That release is a remake of the original 2013 Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and the treasure hunt is built around the same pirate setting. The chest at the center of the hunt contains minted gold coins worth $350,000 and a crystal skull with a red opal jewel embedded in it worth $150,000.
Deckhand and Pirate Lord
Ubisoft is selling two entry tiers. The Deckhand pack costs $39.99 and includes a digital version of the treasure hunt game with clues, rules, and more. The Pirate Lord tier costs $229.99 and includes the physical and digital version of the treasure hunt game, a themed notebook, the pirate strategy game Chaotic Armada, the investigation game Amelia Davies and the Treasure of Blackbeard, one real gold coin minted for the hunt, Captain Edward Kenway's flag, and a seal, wax, and calligraphy set.
For players, the practical step is straightforward: buy the clue pack or a higher tier, then begin solving. The harder tier adds physical items and two extra games, but the central task stays the same — work through the riddles and try to reach the chest before anyone else does.
Caribbean Prize Chest
The hunt’s design favors persistence over speed. Ubisoft and Unsolved Hunts expect players to spend up to five years on the challenge, and the treasure sits in the Caribbean, not in a digital game screen. One winner gets the chest, while everyone else walks away with the clue materials they bought and whatever progress they made through the riddles.
