Nathan Dean Teases Ethan Lovett and Phoebe Paternity Mystery
ethan lovett’s connection to Delilah is now driving a paternity mystery on General Hospital. Nathan Dean says he had no idea where the role was headed when he returned, and the show is teasing whether Ethan is Phoebe’s father. That leaves Brook Lynn and Chase trying to build a future around a baby whose family tree keeps getting sharper.
Nathan Dean on the return
“I wasn’t given many clues at all as to what I’d be doing,” Dean said about coming back to the role he originally played from 2009 to 2013. He added, “There were some rumblings [backstage] about this other thing going on, something with a baby,” before realizing, “Oh, wait! I am involved with that!”
Dean said the first script centered on Ethan’s reunion with Lulu and talk about Luke, not the baby reveal. That kept the return anchored in familiar Port Charles history before the story pivoted into Delilah and Phoebe.
Delilah and Phoebe
In March, Brook Lynn and Chase found Delilah collapsed in the street. Delilah gave birth and then died, and Brook Lynn and Chase became Phoebe’s foster parents as they hoped to adopt her.
Dean said Ethan flew halfway around the world to meet the mystery woman, and that the relationship with Delilah is stronger than viewers have seen Ethan have before. “This is a stronger relationship than we’ve seen Ethan have or he wouldn’t be burning her photo and doing all of these things,” he said.
May 13 at Metro Court Gardens
By May 13, Ethan could hardly keep his eyes off Phoebe at the Metro Court Gardens with Kristina. Dean said Ethan’s pull to Phoebe will grow stronger as the plot unfolds, and that he will keep making excuses to go to the Quartermaine mansion.
The biggest friction point is simple: Ethan’s private bond with Delilah is now colliding with a child already being raised inside another household. Dean said he “can’t wait to find out” whether Ethan is Phoebe’s father, but the show has built the storyline around what Ethan feels, what Brook Lynn and Chase are trying to protect, and how long he can keep the secret he vowed to guard after tearfully burning the photo.
