Burlington Weather Front Drops Temperatures Into 40s and 50s
Burlington weather turns cooler late tonight as a front slides through and brings drier air with it. Temperatures will plunge into the 40s and 50s, and some high mountain communities could briefly see wind chills in the 30s.
Thursday stays on the cool side with gusty wind and a mix of sunshine and clouds. Highs will only reach the 50s and 60s before warmer air returns later this weekend into next week.
Thursday Morning Drought Monitor
The cool-down arrives while severe drought covers almost the entire viewing area. The area of extreme drought has expanded, and conditions are the most extreme in the area since October 2007.
A newly issued drought monitor will be released Thursday morning. It will include rainfall from last Wednesday and yesterday, giving forecasters the next full read on how much those showers changed the dryness across the area.
Warmup Returns Later
The front brings only a short break from the heat. High temperatures are expected to soar back into the 80s and lower 90s later this weekend into next week, with humidity increasing again at the same time.
For now, the change comes fast: cooler air late tonight, a gusty Thursday, and then another push back toward warmer, more humid conditions. The most immediate concern for exposed high mountain communities is the brief dip in wind chills before sunrise and the sharp swing back to warmth after the front passes.
