Gonsalves Says Punjab Kings Will Return Before Thursday’s Pbks Vs Mi
Punjab Kings are heading into pbks vs mi with Trevor Gonsalves saying the team will be back after working through its weak areas. The assistant bowling coach said the dressing room has not changed, even with three league matches left and Thursday’s fixture against Mumbai Indians in Dharamshala looming at 7:30 pm.
Gonsalves backs Punjab Kings
“It is exactly as what it was when we started. Nothing has changed at all in the dressing room. We are quite confident about it. Three games are a lot of games, it's not less, and we hope to do our best. Yes, there were some ups and downs. There were some places where we needed to iron it out, we've done that and we will be back,” Gonsalves said ahead of the match.
That message came with Punjab Kings trying to reset after recent setbacks. He said the team had needed to iron out a few areas and believed that work had already been done before the meeting with Mumbai Indians.
Fielding work runs late
Missed catches have been part of the problem, and Gonsalves did not soften that point. “We have dropped, yes I agree to it. There could be a lot of reasons including the crowd behind, the lights and everything. But at this elite level, yes those catches need to be taken. There is no doubt that we have been dented by them. But we are on it. You can see the practice is on till late. We are working very hard on it and hopefully we will set it right,” he said.
He also framed the game in simple terms: small margins, changing conditions, and a need to clean up mistakes. Gonsalves said the wicket in Dharamshala looked different and would look different again on Thursday, while the small ground and a lot of dew make bowling first a good option.
Dharamshala set for Thursday
Punjab Kings were scheduled to face Mumbai Indians in Dharamshala on Thursday at 7:30 pm. Gonsalves said the team was only concerned with the match ahead and moving forward in the cricketing part, with Ricky Ponting handling the pressure well and senior players such as Arshdeep and Yuzvendra Chahal waiting for the platform.
With three league matches remaining, this is the sort of fixture that can either steady Punjab Kings or extend the run of mistakes Gonsalves says they have already addressed. His public line was plain: the work is being done, the dressing room has not shifted, and Punjab Kings expect to answer it on Thursday night.
