FBI Offers $200,000 for Monica Witt Arrest Information

The FBI has announced a $200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of monica witt, a former U.S. Air Force intelligence specialist charged with espionage for Iran. Daniel Wierzbicki said the bureau believes someone knows where Witt is and wants that person to come forward.

Witt is described by the FBI as residing in Iran and remaining at large. The bureau says the case involves sensitive national defense information and access to secret and top secret material tied to foreign intelligence, counterintelligence and undercover U.S. intelligence personnel.

Daniel Wierzbicki on Witt

Wierzbicki, special agent in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office’s Counterintelligence and Cyber Division, said Witt “allegedly betrayed her oath to the Constitution more than a decade ago by defecting to Iran and providing the Iranian regime National Defense Information and likely continues to support their nefarious activities,” He added, “The FBI has not forgotten and believes that during this critical moment in Iran's history, there is someone who knows something about her whereabouts,”

He also said, “The FBI wants to hear from you so you can help us apprehend Witt and bring her to justice.”

Witt’s reported background

The FBI listed Witt as a native of El Paso, Texas, and said she weighs 120 pounds, stands 5 foot 6 inches tall, has no other alias and is known to speak Farsi. The bureau said she served in the military between 1997 and 2008 and worked as a U.S. government contractor until 2010 before later serving as a special agent for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

A 2019 federal indictment said Witt allegedly defected to Iran in 2013 and provided sensitive national defense information. The FBI says that information could empower the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which leaves the case centered on whether someone with knowledge of her location will act on the new reward.
