Doubs Open to Aj Brown Joining New England

Romeo Doubs said he would be happy to play alongside aj brown if the Patriots trade for him, and he made clear he would accept whatever role New England gives him. The fifth-year pro was viewed as a replacement for Stefon Diggs after signing with New England, so any Brown move would change his place in the offense quickly.

Doubs Fits Any Role

"I was true to my word when I came here that there is no number one guy in this offense," Doubs said Tuesday. He added that he is open to "whatever it is I have to do, whether it's playing into the strength more or playing on the backside every here and now, or even having (revolving roles), which I'm really familiar with because I've done it in Green Bay also."

That flexibility matches the way New England has framed his arrival. Doubs was expected to carry more volume after signing, but he also posted a career-high 724 yards on 55 catches with six touchdowns in 2025, giving the Patriots a receiver who has already handled a larger workload.

A.J. Brown Trade Talk

Reports about Brown picked up steam, but there has been zero confirmation that the Patriots are acquiring him in a post-June 1 trade from the Philadelphia Eagles. Doubs did not treat the rumors as a threat to his own standing. Instead, he pointed to the possibility of sharing targets and said, "I have a ton of respect for him," before adding that Brown has "been a dude in this league for quite a long time."

He also tied Brown's situation to Mike Vrabel, noting that Brown had Vrabel as his coach early in his career. Doubs said, "If he's here, I'd love to have him here, and if he isn't here, I'm still going to wish him the best because he's one of the guys this week. Best in this league."

Patriots Receiver Order

If Brown does not arrive, Doubs would sit atop the Patriots receiver group ahead of Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Demario Douglas and others. If Brown does land in New England, that order changes fast, and Doubs' willingness to move around the offense gives the Patriots a cleaner path to adding another top receiver without forcing him into a rigid role.

The Patriots do not need Doubs to promise a static job description. They need a receiver who can handle volume, shift between alignments and keep production steady if Brown joins a room that already has his attention.
