Lee Bonis hit the post with a sixth-minute penalty for Chesterfield. That miss left the home side chasing the game from the opening stages, and Luker’s goal was enough to keep Notts County ahead at the break and beyond.

Chesterfield held 71% possession in the first leg, while Notts County had 29%. The numbers show how much of the ball Chesterfield controlled, but the only finish that counted came from Notts County.
That imbalance did not stop Notts County from taking a lead back to Meadow Lane. James Belshaw and the rest of the defensive unit now had something to protect with 90 minutes left in the tie.
A Familiar Play-off Rivalry
The clubs have already split plenty of tight meetings this season, with Chesterfield winning 3-2 at Meadow Lane and 2-0 at SMH Group Stadium in the league. They also met in the 2022-23 National League play-off final, which finished 2-2 after extra time before Chesterfield won 4-3 on penalties.
Notts County twice came from behind in that final before losing the shootout, so this tie carried a familiar edge even before Luker scored. Their first-leg win gave them the chance to put that earlier pain behind them with one more strong home performance.
