Applegarth Warns Castleford Will Reeling Before York Knights Vs Tigers

Mark Applegarth expects Castleford Tigers to be reeling when york knights vs tigers arrives on Saturday. Both sides sit on six points, and York are only above Castleford on points difference after a 40-16 loss to St Helens.

Applegarth on Castleford

The York Knights head coach said Castleford will treat the game as a must win after a run of heavy defeats. "It’s fair to say that from the last round, Cas will be reeling from that, and Ryan [Carr, Castleford Tigers Head Coach] and his team will be talking about where they need to tighten up," Applegarth said.

He also singled out Krystian Mapapalangi, who has scored six tries in his last 11 outings. "He’s the sort of player that you want in the league," Applegarth said. "We’ll definitely have eyes on him, he’s a great player and a massive player for them."

Castleford Threats

Castleford’s form has been battered by more than one result. They shipped 50 points to both Hull KR and Hull FC, and also took heavy defeats against Wakefield Trinity, Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos before this trip to York.

Applegarth said Castleford’s rebuild has brought its own edge, while injuries have added another layer to the job. "They’ve had some bad luck with injuries, but they have some excellent players there, some players I’ve coached myself," he said.

Liam Hood is injured, but Applegarth still described him as an outstanding player. He also pointed to Renouf Atoni and Joe Westerman as names York will have to track closely when the match kicks off on Saturday.

Six Points At Stake

With both clubs level on six points, this is not just a form check for Castleford. York’s position above them on points difference means a single result can shift the order between two sides separated by very little, which is why Applegarth said whoever nails it on the day will take the edge.

For York, the task is straightforward: recover from the 40-16 defeat to St Helens and handle a Castleford side that Applegarth expects to arrive carrying the weight of those recent losses. For Castleford, the match offers a quick way to stop the slide and close the gap on a rival sitting just in front of them.
