Jfk Georgetown Home Sells for $6.125 Million on May 12

Jfk and Jackie Kennedy’s former Georgetown home sold on May 12 for $6.125 million. The Marbury House, a Washington, D.C., property tied to the couple’s early years in the capital, changed hands after first being listed in October 2025 for $7.5 million.

Michael Rankin, the listing agent at Sotheby’s International Realty, said the house reflected the Kennedys’ use of it during John F. Kennedy’s rise. “Advisors came and went through the gracious doorway; decisions about Cabinet appointees were considered in the front rooms; and, on winter mornings, the President-elect stepped onto the porch to share announcements with the press gathered along the brick sidewalks.”

Marbury House and the Kennedys

The house was built around 1811 and was commissioned by William Marbury, a Georgetown financier and Federalist whose name is attached to the Supreme Court case Marbury v. Madison. Kennedy and Jackie bought it in 1957 while he was still a senator, making it the first Washington home they purchased before his presidential run.

They paid $82,000 for the property and spent another $18,000 renovating it. The house today measures 5,215 square feet and includes five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, one partial bathroom, a sprawling parlor, a library, a spacious garden, and a one-car garage with two parking spaces.

Campaigns and family life

Rankin also described how Jackie Kennedy used the house. “Jacqueline, who possessed a discerning aesthete, reimagined the interiors several times by shaping the double living room into a warm, polished salon where she hosted political teas and small gatherings that subtly advanced her husbands presidential prospects.”

While living there in Georgetown, the couple welcomed daughter Caroline in 1957 and son JFK Jr. in 1960. During the 1960 presidential election, the home became an integral part of Kennedy’s campaign, linking the private residence to public political work.

January 20, 1961

On the morning of January 20, 1961, the Kennedys left the house for his inauguration and then moved into the White House. The sale closes a later chapter for a property whose Federal-period proportions, high ceilings, and light were noted in the listing, along with its preserved character and integrity.

For buyers and readers following the Georgetown market, the key figure is the final sale price: $6.125 million. That number leaves the house below its October 2025 asking price, but still places it among Washington homes with a documented White House connection.
