Sean Shoptaw said Disney has built a foundational footprint in games, and Kh4 sits inside a portfolio of nine franchises that have grossed over $1 billion at retail. He said the business now reaches Gen Z and Gen Alpha where they spend time with friends.
The Walt Disney Company said Disney Games has driven an estimated $3.5 billion in consumer spend annually for the past four years, then crossed $4 billion in the past fiscal year. Shoptaw tied that scale to a broader shift in how Disney Entertainment is treating interactive work.

Shoptaw, the EVP for Games and Digital Entertainment, said: “We’ve built a really foundational footprint in games today.” He also said, “nine games that have grossed over $1 billion at retail. So, it’s about telling truly original stories that really are unique to this medium, specifically.”
That framing puts the commercial milestone next to a creative one. Disney is not just counting familiar names; it is arguing that games should carry original stories designed for the medium, even as Kingdom Hearts and Marvel Strike Force remain part of the portfolio.
Disney Games Group franchises
The Disney Games Group portfolio spans nine billion-dollar franchises, and more than half of them emerged in the last 12 years. The company also said the portfolio includes Kingdom Hearts and Marvel Strike Force, while Disney & Pixar Games has reached over 1 billion installs since 2014.
Other figures show how wide the reach has become. Lucasfilm Games spans more than 20 genres across every major platform, and Marvel Rivals has attracted 40 million players worldwide, with 60% under age 24.
Marvel Rivals on Discord
Shoptaw said, “These are platforms where Gen Z [and] Gen Alpha primarily are spending a lot of their time, hanging out with their friends,” and added that Marvel Rivals is “a really good example of just how powerful and meaningful these worlds can be.” He said the game supports the largest Discord community in gaming with more than 4.4 million members and generated more than 285 million Twitch viewing hours in 2025.
The company is now building new franchises through gaming, including Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls and Marvel’s Wolverine. Which Disney game franchises make up the other seven billion-dollar titles remains the open question, even as Disney uses games to build new worlds rather than only extend old ones.
