Coudet Faces River Plate - Rosario Central Again After 2019
Eduardo Coudet will face river plate - rosario central as River Plate’s coach for the first time since 2019, a semifinal that folds his past with Rosario Central into a present-day rivalry. He left Central with two strong seasons behind him and now meets the club where he played, coached and once built a deep connection.
Belloso and Coudet
Gonzalo Belloso said he had wanted Coudet at Rosario Central many times, but it never happened. He added that if the coach said yes to River, it would make him uncomfortable.
That friction sits on top of Coudet’s own words from his first River press conference, when he said: “Con respecto al otro club que nombraste, Rosario Central: no quiero hablar cosas y ser respetuoso”.
Central Roots
Coudet’s Rosario Central story began on 25 August 1995, when he debuted at age 20 and scored the equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Independiente on the fourth date of the Torneo Apertura. He won the Copa Conmebol that year, stayed until 1998, then returned as a player in 2004 and again in 2006.
He later took over as Central coach on 15 December 2014 after Miguel Ángel Russo resigned, then became manager in 2015. In his first year, he led the club to Libertadores qualification and the Copa Argentina final, where Boca won 2-0.
River Return
The next year brought another Copa Argentina final, and this one ended 4-3 to River. Coudet left after that match, saying he was grateful for “dos años muy buenos” and “muy dolido por no poder darle un título a la gente”.
His record at Rosario Central stood at 39 wins, 24 draws and 1 incomplete figure in the source text. He last coached against Central in 2019 while in charge of Racing, which makes this semifinal his first River-Central coaching meeting in five years and the sharpest version yet of a relationship that has followed him across jobs.
