Oscar Steene Suffers Acl Injury In Collingwood Loss
Oscar Steene has suffered an acl injury after leaving Collingwood’s AFL game against the Sydney Swans in the third quarter. Scans late today showed damage to his left knee, leaving the young ruck facing a long recovery after his early-season debut.
Steene’s Third-Quarter Exit
Collingwood said Steene’s knee injury came during last night’s game, and he did not finish the match. The Magpies went on to be overcome by top-of-the-table Sydney by six points at the SCG, a result that added to a difficult night for a youthful side already missing experience in key spots.
Gardiner said: “Oscar has worked extremely hard over the past few years to overcome injuries and get his opportunity at AFL level, so we are all incredibly disappointed for him.” He also said: “Since debuting earlier this year, Oscar has been an exciting addition to the team with his athleticism and competitiveness, suggesting he has a bright future ahead.”
Collingwood’s Recovery Plan
The club’s support now shifts from the result to Steene’s rehab. Gardiner said: “This is an unfortunate setback for Oscar which we’ll support him through but he is a resilient and determined young guy who we know will put everything into his recovery.”
That leaves Collingwood without a young ruck who had only recently broken into the AFL side. The injury also strips away one of the few clear development stories in a squad still trying to build around its younger players after the six-point defeat to Sydney.
Sydney At The SCG
The match itself ended with Collingwood’s six-point loss to the top-of-the-table Swans at the SCG. Isaac Quaynor led the way for the Magpies with 22 disposals, six intercepts and seven marks, while the 2025 draftee finished with 39 disposals and a goal in the Pies’ VFL loss.
For Collingwood, the immediate issue is not the margin on the scoreboard but the absence that followed it. Steene’s injury turns a debut season into a rehab assignment, and the club’s own words point to a player it expects to back through the setback.
