Bruno Fernandes Stays One Assist From Most Assists In A Premier League Season
Bruno Fernandes is one assist from the most assists in a premier league season after moving within one of the mark of 20. The Manchester United captain now sits a single pass away from joining Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne at the top of the Premier League’s single-season list.
Fernandes And The 20-Assist Mark
That chase sits alongside a season in which Fernandes is eight clear of Rayan Cherki in the assists chart, with Jarrod Bowen third on 10 assists. The gap matters because it puts Fernandes in complete control of the race even before he reaches the record itself.
Fernandes has done it while Manchester United have not won the Premier League or Champions League since he joined in 2020. He has still collected two domestic cups under Erik ten Hag, but the larger trophy count remains the part of his résumé he keeps returning to.
Fernandes, Henry And De Bruyne
The record he is closing in on is not a casual benchmark. Henry and De Bruyne jointly hold the Premier League single-season assist record of 20, and Fernandes now needs only one more to match them.
His own view of individual recognition has been blunt. In October, he said, "I don't see it that one player is better than another because he wins more trophies. Not every time the best player in the world is the one that wins the Ballon d'Or." He added, "I want to win trophies. I want to be recognised by the many good things I did for the club, for bringing something back to the club, not just my individual numbers."
United, Portugal And The Next Step
Friday brought another marker when Fernandes was named the Football Writers' Association's footballer of the year. He is also a key part of Portugal's World Cup squad this summer, so the final stretch of his club season is running into another major stage.
One United team-mate thought Fernandes would previously have taken a shot against Brentford rather than set up Benjamin Sesko. Fernandes rejected that idea, and the assist chase has become the cleaner story: one more pass, and he equals a Premier League record shared by Henry and De Bruyne.
