Paul Wight Signs New AEW Deal After Limited In-Ring Run
paul wight has signed a new contract with AEW, extending his place with the company after a role that has leaned more on commentary and special appearances than regular matches. The new deal keeps him tied to AEW after his original multi-year contract, signed in February 2021.
AEW Keeps Wight
Sources within AEW said the new deal was relayed to Fightful Select, but neither AEW nor Wight has issued an official announcement. That leaves the contract renewal as a reported move rather than a public rollout, even as the veteran remains part of the promotion’s plans.
Wight’s usage has been limited by injury issues, and he has wrestled sparingly since joining AEW. He has appeared primarily in special attraction bouts, and he does not hold any championships in the company or appear in its current singles or tag team rankings.
Jericho Cruise Return
He was last seen inside the ring at the Jericho Cruise in 2024, where he teamed with Chris Jericho and Mike Bailey against Kyle Fletcher, Powerhouse Hobbs and Lance Archer. That appearance fit the pattern AEW has used with him in recent years: a limited number of in-ring spots, usually reserved for special settings rather than a regular schedule.
Wight’s most recent AEW TV appearance came last November at the Full Gear Tailgate Brawl, when he joined the commentary desk for the singles match between QT Marshall and Big Boom AJ. That combination of commentary and the occasional cameo has become the clearest picture of his current role, and the new deal keeps that arrangement in place for AEW.
