Sanoja Sparks 10th-Inning Rally as Marlins - Rays Streak Ends
The Miami Marlins turned marlins - rays into a 10-5 win in 10 innings on Saturday, ending Tampa Bay’s 11-game home winning streak and forcing a split entering Sunday’s finale. Javier Sanoja fueled the surge with a three-run double after a rough stretch at the plate.
Sanoja Breaks Through
Sanoja’s double came after he had gone 3-for-36 since April 24, with one extra-base hit and one RBI in that span. The swing landed in the middle of an eight-run 10th inning, and Miami kept adding until the game was out of reach.
The Marlins needed that outburst after Friday’s 7-2 loss left them with no margin in the series. Instead, they answered with one of the biggest innings of their season and left Tampa Bay without its home streak intact.
Rays Lose Their Home Edge
Tampa Bay had won 11 straight at home before Saturday, and Miami was the team that stopped it. That changed the feel of the series immediately, because the Rays had already taken the opener and were carrying the home streak into the weekend finale.
Miami entered Sunday at 21-25 and fourth in the NL East, while the Rays were set up to counter with Drew Rasmussen. He came in at 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA, giving Tampa Bay a starter who had handled his work efficiently while the club tried to recover from the extra-inning loss.
Pérez and Rasmussen Set Sunday
Eury Pérez was scheduled to start for Miami with a 2-5 record and a 4.94 ERA. That gave the Marlins a chance to build on Saturday’s turnaround with their rotation piece in place, rather than having to chase the game again from behind.
The split left both clubs with one win apiece in the Florida series entering Sunday afternoon. For Miami, the Saturday rally was the difference between walking into the finale after a road loss and carrying a 10-5 statement win that erased Tampa Bay’s home run of success.
