West Midlands Police arrest man after M6 crash near Stafford
West Midlands Police arrested a man after a blue Audi S3 crash shut parts of the m6 near Stafford on Thursday morning. The motorway later reopened after closures between junctions 14 and 15 and lane restrictions between junctions 13 and 14.
Stafford Services crash
Police spotted the Audi heading northbound between junctions 12 and 13 before it hit a lorry near Stafford services. Two men then fled on foot, and officers sent firearms officers, a dog unit and the National Police Air Service to the scene.
Staffordshire Police said they were called at 04:50 BST by West Midlands Police colleagues after the car was reportedly stolen in West Bromwich. The owner of the car was unhurt in the robbery, while the lorry driver was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Fuel spillage and barrier damage
National Highways called specialist contractors to deal with a large fuel spillage and inspect a barrier damaged in the crash. Delays of two hours were expected on Thursday morning while sections of the motorway remained shut.
The man who was arrested was checked over by paramedics before being detained by West Midlands Police. For drivers using the Stafford stretch, the immediate disruption came from the closures and the clean-up work, not just the crash itself.
