Murakami's Two-Homer Night Powers White Sox Past Cubs 8-3 — Sox Vs Cubs

Munetaka Murakami homered twice and the White Sox beat the Cubs 8-3 on Saturday night in sox vs cubs. The win moved Chicago back above.500 at 23-22 and gave Murakami the first multi-homer game of his MLB career.

Murakami Pounds Taillon

Murakami drove two of the White Sox’s five home runs and did it against Jameson Taillon twice. He entered Saturday with 15 home runs, one behind Aaron Judge for the American League lead, along with 35 walks that ranked fourth in the AL and 64 strikeouts, the most in the league.

White Sox Power Stack

Miguel Vargas, Colson Montgomery and Andrew Benintendi also went deep, turning the game into a five-homer night for Chicago in front of a sellout crowd of 38,795. Davis Martin handled six innings and allowed one run, giving the lineup room to keep building on each swing.

Venable Sees the Shift

White Sox manager Will Venable had said before the game that he was not too worried about Murakami, and after the win he said, “I told you guys he’s just fine,” and added, “Obviously, he sets a real high expectation, continues to have good at-bats, make good swing decisions and gets really good swings off and when he does, they usually go over the fence.” Murakami said via a translator, “They are really good teammates and the centerpiece of the team, as well as everybody,” and, “I’m really happy we are on the same squad. We want to keep continuing a day like this.”

For the White Sox, the result was the cleanest kind of response: five homers, eight runs, and a move back over.500 after a stretch that included Murakami’s six-game dry spell from April 5-12 and then home runs in five straight games. It also left the Cubs having dealt with a lineup that kept scoring without needing a long rally.
