Ktiv Weather issues First Alert Weather Days for Sunday and Monday
KTIV weather declared First Alert Weather Days for Sunday and Monday as strong to severe thunderstorms were forecast for Siouxland. The main window for the most active weather runs from 4 p.m. Sunday to 11 p.m. Sunday night, with a Tornado Watch in place for most of Siouxland until 10 p.m. Sunday.
Severe storm chances were largest into Sunday evening, when the Storm Prediction Center placed all of Siouxland in a level 3/5 Enhanced Risk. Forecasters said a few tornadoes were possible, and some could be strong. Large hail up to three inches, isolated damaging winds up to 85 mph and flash flooding could not be ruled out.
Siouxland Sunday evening
Highs were expected in the upper 70s to low 80s Sunday, with wind gusts potentially exceeding 40 mph. Quite a bit of clearing was seen early Sunday afternoon, and that opening could help fuel storm development later in the day.
A cold front was expected to slowly move through Siouxland Sunday night into Monday morning. That setup kept severe thunderstorms likely early Sunday night and left light rain in place into Monday morning, with lows in the 50s by daybreak.
Monday across Siouxland
KTIV kept Monday on First Alert Weather Days because severe storms were also expected to remain a threat. Clouds were expected to start the day, then severe storms could develop Monday afternoon as the cold front lingered.
The Storm Prediction Center issued a level 3/5 Enhanced Risk for southeastern Siouxland Monday. Main threats were expected to be large hail and damaging winds, with the tornado threat still present and heavy rainfall able to aid some flash flooding. Highs were expected in the 60s and 70s.
Midweek forecast
Tuesday was expected to start with a lot of clouds before some clearing into the afternoon, with wind gusts exceeding 30 mph possible and highs in the low 60s. Wednesday brought a slight warm-up with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 60s, and Thursday was expected to near the 70s under partly cloudy skies.
For people across Siouxland, the immediate focus is the Sunday evening window and then Monday afternoon, when the front could renew severe storm chances after the overnight rain.
