Callum Morton Returns as Torquay United’s First Summer Signing
Torquay United have made callum morton their first summer signing, bringing the 26-year-old striker back after his release by Worthing this month. He returns to the club where he started his career, a move that ties the present rebuild to Torquay’s own academy past.
Morton Returns to Torquay
Morton began in Torquay United’s academy before the club shut it in 2015. He had been a youth team player there, then moved through academy stints at Yeovil Town and West Bromwich Albion before building senior experience across the English Football League and the National League.
The signing gives Torquay a forward with a clear record at senior level. Morton has scored 34 goals in 173 career games across those two competitions, a return built over spells with Northampton Town, Lincoln City, Fleetwood Town, Peterborough United, Salford City, Bristol Rovers and Worthing.
Fleetwood To Worthing
His route back to Torquay has moved through several stops. Morton made a permanent move to Fleetwood Town in the summer of 2022, joined Salford City the following January, then signed for Bristol Rovers in the autumn of 2024 before moving to Worthing at the start of this season.
That sequence leaves Torquay with more than a fresh face. The club has added a striker who already knows its setup, but also one whose career has been shaped by repeated moves through the EFL and National League. For Torquay, he is not a project from scratch; he is a returning player with a senior record and a clear place in the squad’s early summer business.
Worthing Exit, Torquay Start
Morton’s release by Worthing this month opened the door for the move, and Torquay used it to make him their first summer signing. For supporters, the practical significance is simple: the club’s first addition is a 26-year-old forward who already understands the badge and arrives with 173 games of experience behind him.
