Steve Clarke Set to Name 26 Scotland World Cup Squad — Scotland World Cup Squad

Steve Clarke is set to name the scotland world cup squad at around 11:00 BST, with a news conference scheduled for 12:00. Scotland’s return to the men’s World Cup for the first time since 1998 now comes with a full 26-man group and a clear runway into the tournament in June and July.

Clarke’s 26-man group

The squad includes three goalkeepers: Craig Gordon, Angus Gunn and Liam Kelly. Clarke has also selected a full defensive group built around Grant Hanley, Jack Hendry, Aaron Hickey, Dom Hyam, Scott McKenna, Nathan Patterson, Anthony Ralston, Andy Robertson, John Souttar and Kieran Tierney.

Midfield options in the 26-man list are Ryan Christie, Findlay Curtis, Lewis Ferguson, Ben Gannon-Doak, Billy Gilmour, John McGinn, Kenny McLean and Scott McTominay. Up front, Scotland will go with Che Adams, Lyndon Dykes, George Hirst, Lawrence Shankland and Ross Stewart.

Ross Stewart’s place

Stewart’s selection is one of the more notable calls in the group. He is included after an excellent 2026 with Southampton, and he has two Scotland caps, both as a substitute in 2022.

That gives Clarke a forward line with variety. Adams, Dykes, Hirst, Shankland and Stewart all give Scotland different options, while the squad still has to prove itself against Group C opponents Brazil, Morocco and Haiti.

France 98 memory

There is also a historical edge to this announcement. The most recent Scotland World Cup squad selection before this came with a surprise when Ally McCoist was left out of France 98, and Craig Brown later said he felt “great regret” over that decision.

That past call now sits beside Clarke’s first World Cup squad for Scotland since 1998. The list he names today is the one that will carry Scotland into the United States, Canada and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July.
