Guardiola Leaves After Sunday as Bournemouth Vs Man City Looms
Pep Guardiola has told Manchester City’s players he will leave after Sunday’s final Premier League game, and bournemouth vs man city carried that news into a match City had to win to stop Arsenal from taking the title. The 7.30pm BST kickoff left no room for drift.
Guardiola and Bournemouth
Guardiola set the tone before kickoff by saying of Bournemouth: “They don’t let you breathe. When a team is so intense, always when fatigue comes due to the amount of games, they can reduce this tempo a little bit, but with 10 days to prepare, I expect an intense team.” City needed three points against a side that had had 10 days to work on the game.
He also told his squad he was off after Sunday’s final league game against Aston Villa, a major piece of news for a City side still trying to handle the season’s finish while the manager’s departure is now set in motion.
City Changes, Bournemouth Stability
Manchester City made two changes to their FA Cup-winning side, with Gianluigi Donnarumma and Mateo Kovacic replacing James Trafford and Omar Marhoush. Their lineup was Donnarumma; Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, O’Reilly; Bernardo, Rodri, Kovacic; Semenyo, Haaland, Doku.
Bournemouth made only one change from the team that won at Fulham ten days earlier, bringing Tyler Adams in for Ryan Christie in midfield. Their starting XI was Petrovic; Smith, Hill, Senesi, Truffert; Adams, Scott; Rayan, Kroupi, Tavernier; Evanilson.
Semenyo Returns To Bournemouth
Antoine Semenyo added a second layer to the match because he was back at Bournemouth in City colors. “It’ll be emotional for sure. It’s good to be back and to see everyone, but we’ve got a job to do,” he said, before adding: “I know how tough it will be against Bournemouth but we’ve got a gameplan and hopefully it works.”
That return sat beside the title pressure on City. If they failed to beat Bournemouth, Arsenal would win the Premier League title, and Guardiola’s exit would land in the middle of a season finish already carrying immediate consequences for the club’s next stage.
