Nissan Adds Six-Speed Manual to 2027 Z NISMO
Nissan will offer the 2027 nissan Z NISMO with a six-speed manual transmission, replacing the automatic-only setup the performance coupe had when it debuted in 2024. The change comes with a revised powertrain and chassis package built around the model’s 420-horsepower output.
The manual version uses beefed-up transmission mounts, a high-capacity pressure plate and a shorter-throw shifter. Nissan also gave the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 a different throttle map and ignition timing to work with the new gearbox.
2027 Z NISMO hardware
The Z NISMO still makes 420 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, while the other 2027 Nissan Z trims make 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The higher-output NISMO needed the extra transmission hardware to handle the manual setup.
Nissan also borrowed the late R35 GT-R’s 15-inch two-piece iron and aluminum front brake rotors. The Z uses six-piston Akebono calipers instead of the GT-R’s Brembos, and the new rotors weigh a combined 19 pounds less than last year’s.
Nissan Z refresh
Nissan retuned the suspension and steering to take advantage of the lower unsprung mass. The gas tank also has revised baffling to cure a fuel-starvation problem at high g-forces and low fuel quantities.
The 2027 Z gets a refresh across all trims, with a front end that uses a less rectangular grille that is wider toward the bottom. The hood now carries a simple Z badge instead of the Nissan name.
Manual rivals and timing
The manual arrives after Toyota canceled the Supra, ending 2026 as its final year. The Supra had been the Z NISMO’s natural rival and offered a manual transmission before its cancellation.
Nissan’s move gives buyers of its highest-performance Z trim a transmission choice that was missing when the car first reached dealers. For shoppers comparing the Z against other rear-drive coupes, the 2027 NISMO is now the version to watch.
