Xi Jinping Hosts Putin In China Talks After Trump Visit

Xi Jinping welcomed Vladimir Putin in Beijing on Wednesday morning and putin in china moved quickly from ceremony to talks at the Great Hall of the People. The meeting came less than a week after Xi hosted Donald Trump in the same venue.

Chinese soldiers stood in position as a military band played the Russian and Chinese national anthems. Children waved both countries’ flags and shouted, “Welcome, welcome!” in Chinese.

Great Hall Of The People

Xi and Putin began with a smaller meeting before moving to a wider session with their delegations. The broader talks ended at about 2pm local time, and the two leaders then attended a signing ceremony for numerous documents covering technology, trade, scientific research, and intellectual property.

Chinese state media said one document extended the China-Russia treaty of good neighbourliness and friendly cooperation. That adds a formal layer to a relationship Xi described as being at “the highest level of comprehensive strategic partnership.”

Xi And Putin Statements

Xi called on China and Russia to oppose “all unilateral bullying” in the international arena and warned that the world was in danger of reverting back to “the law of the jungle.” Xi also said further hostilities in the Middle East were “inadvisable” and that “a comprehensive ceasefire is of utmost urgency.”

Putin said the relationship with China was at an “unprecedentedly high level” and said Moscow remained “a reliable energy supplier” amid the ongoing Middle East crisis. Putin also invited Xi to visit Russia next year.

Wang Yi Meets Lavrov

Wang Yi greeted Putin when Putin landed in Beijing on Tuesday evening, and Wang is expected to hold talks with Sergei Lavrov. China is Russia’s largest trading partner and buys almost half of Moscow’s oil exports, leaving trade and energy at the center of the visit even as the public stage focused on ceremony and wording.

Xi is scheduled to host Putin for tea in Zhongnanhai, giving the visit one more bilateral stop after the signing ceremony and the main talks. For Beijing, the day showed how closely China is managing ties with Russia while keeping a fast diplomatic pace in the same city that hosted Trump days earlier.
