Mackenzie Scott Announces US$7.2 Billion in New Donations

mackenzie scott has announced US$7.2 billion in new donations, bringing her lifetime giving to US$26 billion. The latest round went to about 200 organizations and marks the largest annual volume she has made public since 2019.

She said the new gifts bring her total giving to US$26 billion and mean she has now allocated more than 46% of her fortune. The donations were spread across higher education, historically Black universities in the United States, programs for indigenous students and underserved groups, and the environmental sector.

Higher Education And Climate Groups

Among the beneficiaries named in the announcement are the Global Methane Hub, the ClimateWorks Foundation, and Forests, People, Climate. Those groups sit alongside colleges and university programs that received support in a round centered on higher education.

Scott rarely speaks publicly about her philanthropy, and her statements are usually limited to texts on Yield Giving. That makes the size of the announcement stand out on its own terms: the gifts are large, unrestricted, and distributed across a wide set of institutions rather than through a traditional foundation.

Amazon Shares After Bezos Divorce

Scott received about 400 million Amazon shares in 2019 after her divorce from Jeff Bezos, and she has since divested more than 75% of those shares. Forbes estimates her net worth at about US$30 billion, down from a peak estimate of US$59 billion in 2021.

She does not maintain a traditional foundation and instead uses donor-advised funds, or DAFs, with tax advantages similar to foundations. In practical terms, that means the latest US$7.2 billion announcement extends a pattern she has already made central to her giving: large transfers, little public fanfare, and no sign of slowing the pace of distribution.
