Pete Crow-Armstrong Fined After 24-Word Vulgar Exchange, Pca
pca drew an undisclosed fine after a vulgar response to a female Chicago White Sox fan during Saturday’s 8-3 Cubs loss. The punishment leaves him with a public apology to manage and a reputation hit that now sits beside his first All-Star season.
Crow-Armstrong and the heckler
He was heckled after making a play in the fifth inning, then replied, “You suck my f–-ing d–k b----,” according to the report. The exchange turned a routine fan interaction into a discipline case, and the fine makes the club’s response more than a private locker-room matter.
Craig Counsell backs discipline
On Monday, Crow-Armstrong said, “I think I just regret my choice of words the most and who that affects in my life, directly and indirectly.” He added, “I don’t think that any of the women in my life would ever think that I would use those kind of words regularly, especially referring to them.”
He also said, “So I’m just bummed out about the word choice, and that a bunch of little kids go and probably find their way to social media and see that as well.” Before Chicago’s 9-3 loss to Milwaukee, manager Craig Counsell said he spoke with Crow-Armstrong and added, “He made a mistake, and we’ve got to move on from it.”
Cubs and the next game
Counsell also said, “It’s a reality of this job. It happens. Fan interactions happen. You want to try to keep them positive, even when they’re not. Sometimes when it’s a really emotional situation, it’s difficult, but it’s still a requirement of the job.”
The timing matters because Crow-Armstrong is not an anonymous role player. He made his first All-Star team last season, hit.247 with 31 home runs and 95 RBI last season, and has opened this year at.229 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 49 games. The Cubs were 29-20 and were scheduled to play the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday at 7:40 p.m. ET, with the off-field issue now attached to an important stretch on the field.
