Sussex police identify three sisters in Brighton Sea Deaths
Sussex police identified the three women in the brighton sea deaths as sisters on Wednesday after their bodies were recovered from the sea off Brighton beach. The women were Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, from the Uxbridge area of London.
Emergency services were called at about 5.45am on 13 May after concerns were raised for a person’s welfare, and three bodies were pulled from the water near Madeira Drive that morning. Police later asked anyone who saw the sisters around the Madeira Drive area between 10pm on 12 May and 5.30am on 13 May to come forward.
Joseph's tribute
Their father, Joseph, said: "Jane, Christina, and Becky were more than daughters to me; they were my joy, my strength and the beautiful light that filled our family with happiness and love." He added: "Each of you was unique and precious in your own special way."
Joseph also said: "Your smiles brightened dark days, your laughter brought comfort and your presence made life more meaningful." He added: "Though your time on Earth was short, the impact you made will remain in our hearts for ever."
Sussex police inquiry
Sussex police said there was no evidence to suggest criminality or that anyone else was involved. Ch Supt Adam Hays said: "The thoughts of everyone at Sussex police are with the family of Jane, Christina and Rebecca following this devastating loss."
He added: "This investigation will continue in earnest, with Jane, Christina and Rebecca’s family at its centre." Hays also said: "I would ask that they are given the privacy to come to terms with this terrible tragedy."
Specialist detectives are gathering the full facts and circumstances surrounding the three women’s deaths. Police said they had reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and made inquiries to businesses and properties around the beach area to track the women’s last movements.
That work leaves the case focused on the final hours before the bodies were found near Madeira Drive, with police asking anyone who saw the sisters in that stretch of Brighton beach to contact them.
