More than 160 sites join Doors Open Toronto 2026 this weekend

Doors Open Toronto 2026 opens more than 160 sites and spaces across the city on May 23 and 24, including several East Toronto locations. For visitors, the draw is access to places that are not usually open in the same way, from heritage buildings to community hubs.

The East Toronto list includes the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant, the Danforth Mennonite Church, the Kew Beach Lawn Bowling Club, Riverdale Hub, the Raw Signal Group, the East End Food Hub and the Don Jail at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital. Their hours range from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., depending on the site.

R.C. Harris Plant and Danforth Church

The R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant sits at Queen Street East at the foot of Victoria Park Avenue. The site is recognized under the Ontario Heritage Act as a National Historic Civil Engineering Site and has also been recognized as a Canadian Water Landmark by the American Water Works Association. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 23 and 24.

The Danforth Mennonite Church at 2174 Danforth Ave. is a 115 year old Neo Gothic building. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 23 and 24, giving visitors one of the longer daily windows among the East Toronto sites.

Kew Beach and Riverdale Hub

The Kew Beach Lawn Bowling Club at 12 Lee Ave. serves as a gathering place for residents through lawn bowling, croquet and year round social programs. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 23 and 24.

Riverdale Hub at 1326 Gerrard St. E. began as a silent movie theatre before becoming a multi-purpose arts and community space supporting marginalized and BIPOC communities. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 23. That one-day schedule gives visitors less time there than at several of the other East Toronto stops.

Raw Signal and the Don Jail

The Raw Signal Group at 1414 Danforth Ave. stands as one of the oldest bank buildings in Toronto and was constructed in 1919. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 23 and 24.

The Don Jail at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital opened in 1864 and remained active for more than a century before closing in 1977. At 1 Bridgepoint Dr., it will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 23 and 24. The city’s 433 Eastern Yard, constructed in 1912, is also among the surviving industrial sites tied to the former Consumers’ Gas Company complex in the Eastern and Booth avenues area.

For people planning a visit, the practical decision is simple: choose the sites with the hours that fit the day, since some East Toronto locations are open both days while others appear only on May 23. The schedule makes the city’s heritage, industrial and community spaces available in a concentrated two-day window, but not all on the same timetable.
