London Underground closures hit Piccadilly and District lines May 23-25

London Underground services on the Piccadilly line and District line will face closures over the three-day May Bank Holiday weekend from May 23-25. Huge sections of both lines will be down for almost the entire three days, with disruption expected to hit west London hardest.

The planned work comes during a busy weekend in the capital, with the GALA festival, Foodies street food festival and the Chelsea Flower Show all taking place. Transport for London has also set out closures on the DLR and Overground.

Piccadilly line closures

The Piccadilly line is among the two major Tube lines listed for disruption. The closures are scheduled across almost the entire three days, leaving large parts of a main route unavailable for much of the bank holiday period.

That affects passengers traveling through west London most directly, where the planned shutdown will be felt across a major section of the network. Riders using the line for work, events or airport-linked journeys will need to account for the bank holiday closures before setting out.

District line disruption

The District line is also included in the planned May 23-25 closures. Alongside the Piccadilly line disruption, the shutdown leaves two major Tube lines affected for nearly the full holiday weekend.

Transport for London has also listed closures on the DLR and Overground, adding to the number of routes unavailable during the same period. For passengers in west London, the combination means fewer Tube options across the weekend and more pressure on the lines that remain open.

May 23-25 closures

The disruption runs over the three-day weekend and not just one day of the holiday period. For passengers, the practical step is to check journey plans before traveling and allow extra time if a route usually depends on the Piccadilly or District line.

With closures set across multiple services, the main change is simple: bank holiday travel across London Underground will be reduced on two of its major lines, and west London will feel it first.
