Memorial Parkway stop
An officer saw a vehicle traveling well above the posted speed limit on Memorial Parkway near Martin Road around 6 p.m. When officers tried to stop it, the driver kept going north on Memorial Parkway and then turned onto Clinton Avenue.
The vehicle came to a stop in the 700 block of Clinton Avenue near Heart of Huntsville Drive. After the stop, Montgomery allegedly refused to comply with officers' commands, and a K-9 unit was deployed to help make the arrest.
Downtown Huntsville arrest
The K-9 apprehended Montgomery, ending the pursuit in downtown Huntsville. He was identified as a 42-year-old Hartselle resident and later treated at a hospital before jail booking.
The arrest followed a sequence that began with speeding and moved quickly into an attempt to elude police. That left Montgomery facing driving under the influence of alcohol by 0.08 percent or more by weight of alcohol in blood, attempting to elude police officer, a misdemeanor, and a liquor open-container charge for alcohol in a vehicle.
Montgomery charges
The case centers on the stop itself: speeding near Martin Road, a failed attempt to pull the vehicle over, and a short chase that reached Clinton Avenue before the arrest. For drivers in the area, the practical result was a late-evening police response that ended only after the K-9 unit got involved and Montgomery was taken into custody.
