Allwyn Gives 10 Retailers 500 Scratch-Coins for National Lottery
Allwyn launched a limited-edition national lottery Scratch-Coin on 22 May to mark 30 years of National Lottery Scratchcards. Ten specially selected retail partners across the UK will receive 500 coins each, and the coins will be handed to customers with any National Lottery Scratchcard purchase from Saturday, 23 May, while stocks last.
Karl Southworth, Allwyn’s Head of Field Sales, said the coins were created to reward standout retail partners and build interest in stores. He said: “As we celebrate 30 years of National Lottery Scratchcards, we wanted to create a fun, engaging moment that not only rewards our standout retail partners but also helps generate excitement and drive footfall.”
Karl Southworth on gold standard retailers
Southworth also said: “These ‘Scratch-coins’ are a brilliant way to recognise a small group of our ‘gold standard’ retailers, who consistently go above and beyond in bringing The National Lottery to life in their local communities.” Allwyn said the 10 chosen retailers were selected for their long-standing partnership with The National Lottery and their commitment to local communities.
Those coins sit alongside a broader retail network that Allwyn said includes 43,500 partners across the UK. Southworth added: “That being said, we’re incredibly proud of our entire retail network — every one of our 43,500 partners plays a vital role in helping raise £33m for National Lottery-funded projects every week.”
Hattie Stewart and the Scratch-Coin
The Scratch-Coin was created with artist and illustrator Hattie Stewart, who said: “Scratching is such a satisfying ritual.” She added: “It’s about anticipation, excitement and that little moment of hope.”
Stewart also said: “I love that even now, people get creative with it when they don’t have a coin to hand, using keys, cards, rings, even their fingernails, but nothing quite beats doing it properly.” She said: “I wanted the coin to feel fun, celebratory and full of personality.”
£300,000 Birthday Scratchcard
Allwyn also pointed to the £300,000 Birthday Scratchcard, priced at £2 and offering an overall 1 in 3.33 chance of winning a prize. The top prize is £300,000, giving the anniversary promotion a second product tied to the same 30-year milestone.
For customers, the practical change is limited to the 10 selected shops: anyone buying a National Lottery Scratchcard at those retailers from Saturday, 23 May can receive one of the 500 Scratch-coins each retailer has been allocated, until supplies run out.
