Ricky Martin Concert in Podgorica Cut by Gas Attack

Ricky Martin’s concert in Podgorica, Montenegro, was interrupted on Thursday, May 21, after a person discharged gas lacrimógeno toward the stage. The singer and his team left immediately as security and local authorities moved to contain the situation. Martin later returned after the area was judged safe enough for the audience to come back.

Independence Square in Podgorica

The show was a free concert in Independence Square, where the Montenegrin state had invited Martin to headline celebrations for Montenegro’s 20th anniversary of independence. The event had space for up to 15,000 people and also featured German DJ Robin Schulz and several local artists.

Róndine Alcalá said Martin and his team were safe and grateful for the support and concern received after the events in Montenegro. Her statement also described an “interrupción abrupta del espectáculo mientras los miembros de la audiencia se alejaban del área y recibían asistencia” and said “el personal de seguridad y las autoridades locales trabajaban para contener la situación y garantizar la seguridad de los asistentes.”

Ricky Martin Live in Europe

The Podgorica concert marked the start of the European leg of Ricky Martin Live and Martin’s first performance in the Balkan country.

Alcalá said the tour would continue on its planned schedule, with upcoming European stops including Moldova, Serbia, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey, Georgia, and Kazakhstan. Martin is scheduled to perform at Pully Live in Switzerland on June 24 and at Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois, on August 20.

The incident left the concert’s original flow broken, but not the schedule around it. Martin chose to continue once authorities said the situation was under control, and the next dates on the itinerary remain in place.
