Meta Launches Forum With AI Chatbot for Facebook Groups — New Iphone

Meta launched Forum, a new iPhone app, built around Facebook Groups and a chatbot in the new iphone experience. The app gives group members a separate place to browse advice, search old posts, and publish their own updates without opening the main Facebook app.

Feryal Hemamda, a Meta communications manager, said, “We test lots of new products publicly to see what people find interesting and useful to their experiences across our apps.”

Forum and Facebook Groups

Forum moves Facebook Groups into a dedicated app on iPhones. After logging in with a Facebook account, the app automatically pulled in the groups the author already belonged to on Facebook, then filled the feed with posts from those groups and suggestions from groups the author had not joined.

The app also showed a mini version of the user’s Facebook profile that displayed only group posts. That setup narrows the experience to group activity, which is the part most likely to matter to someone trying to follow advice threads or local discussions without the rest of the social network in the way.

Ask tab chatbot

Forum puts its AI chatbot under an Ask tab. The chatbot can generate responses from posts in Facebook groups, and the results include the posts it used so people can tap through to the full conversation.

That makes the assistant more than a generic search box. It can surface a group answer, then send the reader back to the original discussion for context before they rely on it.

Meta's app reset

Meta released two new apps for iPhone this month, and Forum is part of that push. The move also revives Facebook’s discontinued Groups app in a new form, after Facebook shut down the standalone version in 2017.

For people who already use groups for recommendations, troubleshooting, or local advice, Forum creates a separate workflow for finding posts and posting directly to specific groups. The unresolved question is whether Meta will keep Forum as a test or expand it beyond this iPhone launch.
