Easyjet Flight Diverted Rome After Power Bank Alert

EasyJet flight diverted rome when EZY2618 from Hurghada to Luton turned back to Rome Fiumicino at 11.30pm on May 19 after crew were told a power bank was charging in luggage. The captain diverted the aircraft as a precaution under safety regulations, leaving passengers to spend the night in hotels or inside the terminal.

EZY2618 and Rome Fiumicino

EasyJet said: "Flight EZY2618 from Hurghada to Luton on May 19 diverted to Rome Fiumicino as the crew were informed a power bank was charging in luggage." The airline added: "Safety is our highest priority. We would like to apologise to all passengers for any inconvenience."

Passenger disruption after landing

According to reports, a woman told a stewardess about her power bank before the diversion. The aircraft had been heading from Egypt to Luton when it landed in Rome, and the airline’s next Rome to Luton flight was at 2pm on Wednesday.

The overnight stop left passengers with two immediate options after landing: hotel rooms or the terminal. That was the practical consequence for anyone booked on EZY2618, and the Wednesday afternoon departure was the first scheduled chance to continue the journey through Rome.

May 19 diversion

The sequence was brief but specific: departure from Hurghada, diversion at 11.30pm on Tuesday, and a forced stop in Rome Fiumicino over a charging power bank in luggage. For affected passengers, the key change was not the route alone but the overnight delay that followed before the next Rome to Luton flight at 2pm on Wednesday.
