Cj Group Files Police Complaint Over Data Leak of 330 Women
Cj Group filed a police complaint on May 19 after a Telegram channel posted personal information for around 330 female employees, including mobile phone numbers, job titles, internal phone numbers and photographs. The company said it had already notified the affected employees and was taking steps to prevent secondary damage.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency
The complaint went to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and cited a violation of the Personal Information Protection Act. CJ Group said it requested a police investigation in connection with the leak, which was posted on May 18.
The Telegram channel involved was created in 2023 and reportedly has about 2,800 members. Some of the leaked material was accessible through CJ Group’s internal intranet, a detail that points to the route at least part of the data may have taken before it appeared on Telegram.
CJ Group Intranet Data
The leaked information included mobile phone numbers, job titles, internal phone numbers and photographs tied to around 330 female employees. CJ Group said it had individually notified the employees whose information appeared in the post.
That matters for employees because the exposed material goes beyond a single contact field and includes several pieces of identifying workplace information. The company’s response now centers on limiting further spread of the material and supporting the workers whose details were posted.
Telegram Channel Created 2023
The channel’s 2023 creation date and its reported membership of about 2,800 people put the leak in a space with a built-in audience already large enough to circulate personal data quickly. CJ Group’s filing moves the case from an internal privacy incident into a police review under the Personal Information Protection Act.
For the employees named in the post, the immediate next step is already underway: CJ Group says it has notified them and is trying to prevent additional harm while police examine how the information was obtained and shared.
