Trump Security Response Follows White House Shooting Report

Dozens of gunshots were reported outside the White House on Saturday evening, and the building was put on lockdown. Selina Wang, the ABC White House correspondent, said she was taping on her iPhone from the North Lawn when the shots sounded and press members were told to run to the briefing room.

“I was in the middle of taping on my iPhone for a social video from the White House North Lawn when we heard the shots,” Wang said. She added: “It sounded like dozens of gunshots. We were told to sprint to the press briefing room where we are holding now.”

Members of the press were told by Secret Service to gather on the north lawn shortly before 6:30 p.m., then move into the press briefing room. The response came after the sound of the shots rang out outside the White House, creating an immediate security move at a site where reporters were already on duty.

The sound came a little less than two hours after President Trump announced on Truth Social that he was in the Oval Office working on a peace deal with Iran. The source of the apparent gunfire was not clear.

The report also came about a month after a lone gunman opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. For people working at the White House, the sequence meant a sudden shift from routine coverage to moving quickly inside when the shots were heard.
