Halifax Police Department Infant Search focuses on 214 Willett St.

Halifax Regional Police are carrying out a halifax police department infant search after officers were notified of a woman in hospital who appeared to have just given birth. The baby has not been located, and police have asked the public to stay away from the area while they search.

May 22 call in Halifax

Police said officers were called at around 9:40 p.m. on May 22 about a woman in life-threatening condition. After officers were notified, they learned the woman appeared to have just given birth, turning the hospital call into a missing newborn search tied to a fast-moving investigation.

Halifax Regional Police said they are searching the area of 214 Willett St. in Halifax with Nova Scotia Ground Search and Rescue. Residents have been urged to check their own properties and report anything suspicious to police immediately.

214 Willett St. search area

The search is centered on a specific address, not a wide citywide sweep, which is why police are asking people to avoid 214 Willett St. while investigators work. That instruction also gives nearby residents a clear task: check yards, outbuildings, and any places that would not normally be visible from the street, then call police if they find anything unusual.

Police said four people are currently in custody and being questioned. That leaves the search focused on both the baby’s location and what officers learn from those interviews, with the area around Willett Street still active for investigators and search teams.

Police questioning four people

The open question for Halifax residents is whether the baby is in or near the search area and can be found before the investigation moves elsewhere. For now, police have told people to avoid the area, check their own properties, and pass along anything suspicious immediately rather than waiting for the search teams to come to them.
