Christopher Wilson Describes Camilla’s ‘Ruthless Streak’ in New Profile
camilla has a hidden “ruthless streak,” according to royal biographer Christopher Wilson, who described her as having “iron determination” in a new profile of the Queen’s role on the contemporary royal scene. Wilson said the quality is kept out of view, but shapes how she operates around King Charles and other senior royals.
Wilson on Camilla
Wilson, the author of A Greater Love—Charles and Camilla, told the Daily Mail that Camilla is “every bit as convincing as the old Queen Mother was when it comes to putting on a sweet smile and saying just the right thing to put people at their ease.” He added: “But—again like the Queen Mum—there’s a ruthless streak to Camilla which she takes care to keep hidden from view.”
He also said, “Monarchy is about survival, and Camilla understands that.” In the same interview, Wilson said she “put fire in the belly of her reluctant husband,” and compared her role with the Queen Mother’s influence in 1936, saying King George needed her “iron-clad courage,” just as King Charles needs Camilla’s today.
Prince Andrew and the succession
The profile also tied Camilla to reporting about Prince Andrew’s place in the royal family. The source says Camilla and Prince William are seen by some as part of a faction determined to keep Andrew away from the Royal Family, while a source close to William told Vanity Fair that he and Kate Middleton were concerned by Andrew’s appearances in the Epstein Files.
The Daily Mail reported that Camilla would support a push to permanently remove Andrew from the line of succession. It said Charles would experience that choice with pain on a personal level but now considers it inevitable. Wilson said Camilla’s hard line would also involve Andrew’s daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.
Eugenie and Beatrice
The source says Camilla has increased her distance from Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice in an attempt to reduce their influence and role within the royal hierarchy. The Daily Mail also said Camilla’s name did not appear next to the king’s in congratulations to Princess Eugenie on her third pregnancy, which was announced in recent weeks.
Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice were both absent from Buckingham Palace’s garden parties this year. Their absence, along with the reported gap in Camilla’s public congratulations, sits beside Wilson’s broader claim that she understands survival politics inside the monarchy and uses discretion to keep leverage hidden.
