Connecticut Towns Cancel Parades as Memorial Day 2026 Parade Plans Change
Dozens of Connecticut towns changed their memorial day 2026 parade plans on Monday after forecasted rain and inclement weather forced cancellations. Ansonia moved its parade to May 31 at 2 p.m., while several other communities switched to indoor ceremonies or canceled observances altogether.
The changes reached towns from Avon to Glastonbury. In some places, the parade was called off and the memorial program stayed on the schedule, giving residents a different way to mark the day.
Ansonia and Avon
Ansonia rescheduled its parade for May 31 at 2 p.m., giving residents a later option after the weather disruption. Avon canceled its parade because of weather and planned an 11 a.m. ceremony at the Senior Center.
Bantam's parade was canceled by the fire department. Bristol police said the Memorial Day Procession was canceled, and Forestville Centers still had its parade scheduled to take place.
Clinton and East Hartford
Clinton canceled its Memorial Day parade and set an indoor ceremony at 11 a.m. in the auditorium of Town Hall to honor fallen veterans. East Hartford canceled its parade and moved its program indoors at 10 a.m. at town hall.
Crystal Lake canceled its parade and set a ceremony for 10:30 a.m. in the EHS auditorium. East Hampton officials canceled their parade and scheduled a ceremony at 9:00 a.m. in the high school auditorium.
Ellington and Glastonbury
Ellington's parade decision was to be made on Monday morning, leaving that town's observance dependent on the weather and the timing of local planning. Danbury's mayor canceled the parade and urged residents to take time and reflect, remember, and honor those who gave their lives in service to the nation.
East Windsor's scheduled parade was called off, with a ceremony set for 10 a.m. at Warehouses Point Station 1 on Bridge Street. Essex town officials canceled their parade and said ceremonies were ready at 9:30 a.m. at the Essex Veterans Memorial Hall.
Farmington canceled its parade because of the weather and invited veterans to gather at the Town Hall Veterans Memorial at 12 p.m. for a short ceremony. Glastonbury's Veterans Service Commission said the parade was canceled and planned a ceremonial service at 9:30 a.m. at the Glastonbury High School gym on 330 Hubbard Street.
