Britney Spears Field Sobriety Test Standoff Lasted About 10 Minutes

Britney Spears field sobriety test records show she refused to get out of her BMW for about 10 minutes before her March 4 DUI arrest in Ventura County. A police report and dashcam video later showed the stop, including breath tests of 0.05 and 0.06 after officers pulled her over on U.S. 101 near the Los Angeles County line.

March 4 Stop on U.S. 101

The California Highway Patrol report said Spears smelled of booze, had rapid and slurred speech, an unsteady gait and fidgeted with her fingers. It also said her mood shifted from confrontational and agitated to flamboyant and compliant during the stop, and that she appeared to speak with a British accent at times.

Spears told officers, "I could probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you, I'm an angel." She also said she had only one drink, a mimosa, hours earlier, and described her level of drunkenness as "zero."

Dashcam Video and Breath Tests

The report said Spears first refused to get out of the car, telling officers she had been pranked and harassed in the past and that, as a woman, she had a right to decline. She said she feared getting out on the highway. When officers said they could take her around the corner, Spears suggested they go to her house and added, "I'll make you food or lasagna, whatever you want. I have a pool."

Breath tests later put her blood alcohol level at 0.05 and 0.06. The report also said an officer found a bottle of Adderall in her purse that was not prescribed to her, and Spears gave a blood sample for a drug test; those results were not included in the report.

Britney Spears Plea on May 4

Spears was later charged with misdemeanor DUI and pleaded guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and drugs on May 4, avoiding more jail time. Ventura County prosecutors said the plea agreement was a standard offer for defendants with no DUI history, no crash or injury on the road and a low blood-alcohol level.

Michael Goldstein said after the plea hearing, "I don't think anybody's happy about pleading guilty to anything, but under the circumstances, to get this behind her, I think everybody is pleased with the result," as Spears had voluntarily checked into a rehabilitation facility soon after the March stop.
