Liverpool Echo reports emergency response at Formby Beach, 15-year-old taken to hospital

liverpool echo reported emergency services at Formby Beach on Albert Road on Monday, May 25, after concern was raised for the safety of a 15-year-old girl. Merseyside Police, the coastguard and North West Ambulance Service were called to the beach at around 3.30pm.

The girl was taken to hospital and her family were informed. Police said further updates will be issued when appropriate, while motorists were urged to avoid the area where possible.

Albert Road response

A police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in Formby following an incident this afternoon, Monday, May 25." The same statement said: "At around 3.30pm, police, the coastguard and NWAS were called to Formby Beach, Albert Road to reports of a concern for the safety of a 15-year-old girl."

The response involved the air ambulance, a coastguard helicopter and several police incident response vehicles. That brought a multi-agency operation to a stretch of beach that is reached through Albert Road.

Traffic near Formby Beach

Heavy traffic caused severe disruption around the beach, and surrounding roads were reported to be gridlocked as emergency services dealt with the incident. Police introduced a temporary one-way system to ease congestion.

The practical effect for drivers was immediate: access around the beach became restricted while emergency vehicles worked at the scene. Police kept the area under pressure long enough to require a traffic change rather than a simple roadside response.

Police update on Monday

The force said: "She has been taken to hospital and her family are aware. Enquiries are ongoing at the scene." It also said: "Further updates will be issued when appropriate."

For people heading toward Formby Beach, the clear instruction from police was to stay away from the area if possible while the scene remained active.
