Bungie Ends Destiny 2 Live Service on June 9, 2026

Bungie will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 on June 9, 2026, and then begin ending active development on the game. The studio said the move comes after almost twelve years with the Destiny universe and after The Final Shape, as it shifts work toward incubating its next games.

“our love for Destiny 2 has not changed,” Bungie said, even as it set the end date for live-service support. The company also said it will make Destiny 2 remain playable, “just as the original Destiny is today,” which leaves the game open for existing players even as the update pipeline closes.

June 9 and Monument of Triumph

June 9 will bring Destiny 2: Monument of Triumph to all players, alongside the final update. Bungie said the update is designed to make Destiny 2 a welcoming place for players to return, and it will pull features and bullets across all activity types into one last pass.

Legendary Marks will return from ages of triumph past, and Bungie said they will unlock free armor ornaments, accessories, weapon engrams, and more. It also said an additional Title and armor ornament set awaits players who range widely in their deeds, a clear sign that the finale is being built as a reward loop, not just a farewell screen.

The Final Shape shift

“after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2.” Bungie said that decision is tied to its next phase as a studio, with the final update carrying some of the intended future-release content that was held back for this release. That makes June 9 both an ending and a consolidation point for the game’s remaining live-service content.

“For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all.” Bungie framed the update as a collection of love letters across all activity types, which tells players what to expect next: one last broad content drop, then a playable game that no longer receives active development. For anyone still inside Destiny 2, the practical answer is simple — the game stays up, but the live-service era ends with this update.
