West Yorkshire Police Probe Drowning of 13-Year-Old at Leadbeater Dam

A 13-year-old boy died after a drowning at Leadbeater Dam in Halifax on Monday afternoon. West Yorkshire Police said Reco David-James was removed from the reservoir and later pronounced dead in hospital.

Police were called to the moorland site off Lumb Lane at about 15:20 BST after officers were told a teenage boy had got into difficulty in the water. The death came during an official heatwave across much of England and Wales, when amber and yellow heat-health alerts were in place for many areas.

Leadbeater Dam, Halifax

West Yorkshire Police said the boy was taken from the reservoir to hospital after the incident. The force said it did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances in the Halifax death.

Reco David-James, 13, was named locally after the incident. His death was one of three separate fatalities reported at beauty spots across England on Bank Holiday Monday.

Kingsbury Water Park

Warwickshire Police was called to Kingsbury Water Park shortly after 18:00 BST, where a girl was later pronounced dead at the scene after her body was recovered at about 19:20 BST. A family member said she was a 16-year-old pupil at Kingsbury School and added that she could not swim.

The family member also said the incident had happened in the River Tame. A teenage boy tried to rescue her.

Rother Valley Country Park

South Yorkshire Police was called to Rother Valley Country Park at 18:50 BST after a teenage boy entered the water and was not seen getting out. Police recovered his body after a search and rescue operation involving officers, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews and Yorkshire Ambulance Service crews.

Police in West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Warwickshire each confirmed a death in a separate incident, while a 15-year-old boy drowned in a lake near Lincoln on Sunday. The bank holiday sequence left investigators dealing with multiple scenes at open-water sites as the heatwave continued.
