Toyota recalls 43,566 2024 Tundras over engine failure risk
Toyota recalled 43,566 non-hybrid 2024 Tundras after identifying a potential engine failure issue in vehicles equipped with its 3.4-liter twin-turbo V-6. The automaker said affected owners will be notified by July 20, and repairs will be free once the remedy is ready.
Toyota Tundra recall details
The recall covers only non-hybrid 2024 model-year trucks. Toyota said engine machining debris of a particular size and amount may not have been cleared during manufacturing and may have contaminated the engine assembly during production.
That debris can create pressure on a main bearing. Toyota said failure may occur if the debris adheres to the bearing and the engine continues at higher loads over time.

Toyota said the failure can lead to engine knocking, rough running, no start, or an engine stall. The company said it believes there have been 360 warranty claims on engines tied to the issue.
Toyota also said, "that engine machining debris of a particular size and amount may not have been cleared from the engine during manufacturing and subsequently contaminated the engine assembly during the production process." The company added, "For these engines in the subject vehicles, the pressure on a main bearing due to the engine configuration is such that, if the aforementioned machining debris adheres to that bearing and operation of the engine continues at higher loads over time, failure of the bearing may occur."
July 20 owner notices
"This can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or an engine stall," Toyota said. The company said "the remedy is currently under development," and repairs will be done without charge when the fix is available.
The new recall comes after Toyota said the same root cause has prompted earlier recalls involving Toyota and Lexus vehicles with the same engine. For owners of the 43,566 trucks now covered, the immediate step is to watch for Toyota's notice by July 20 and arrange the free repair when the remedy is released.
