Bruce Miller Drives The Testaments Season 2 After 45M Hours Streamed

Bruce Miller got the testaments season 2 renewed on May 20 while the 10-episode first season was still airing. Hulu moved before the freshman run finished its rollout, and the series had already cleared over 45M hours streamed globally.

May 20 Renewal

The decision came with eight episodes available, leaving two episodes in the first season after the renewal. Episode 9 went live the same day on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the U.S. for bundle subscribers, and on Disney+ internationally.

That timing keeps the show in circulation across multiple services while the season is still delivering new episodes. For a series that launched with three episodes on April 8, the early pickup signals that the platform is treating the audience base as durable enough to extend before the finale lands.

45M Hours Streamed

Over 11M hours streamed globally in the first eight days gave the title a fast start across Hulu and Disney+. Episode 4, which became available on April 15, posted a 20% viewership increase compared with the premiere after one day of streaming.

By episode 8, first-day views were up 76% from the premiere, a sharper climb than the early rollout suggested. The available episodes had since amassed over 45M hours streamed globally, a figure that helps explain why the renewal arrived before the season closed out.

Aunt Lydia's School

The series is a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale and follows young teens Agnes and Daisy as they navigate Aunt Lydia's elite preparatory school for future wives. Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Ann Dowd, Gianna Sobol, and Elisabeth Moss are among the names attached to the project, which averages 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.

That combination of franchise link, strong review average, and rising episode-by-episode viewing gives Hulu a cleaner case for expanding the property now rather than waiting for a full-season postmortem. The season finale was slated for May 27, so the last week of the run also serves as the first real test of how far the audience can stretch after the renewal.
